As Assistant Superintendent, you will play an important role in supporting daily golf course operations and helping lead the grounds team. Responsibilities include scheduling, delegating daily assignments, training, hiring support, disciplinary follow-up, and helping ensure team members follow the White Cliffs employee handbook. You will also be directly involved in granular and chemical applications, daily irrigation practices, and irrigation repairs. This position reports daily to the Superintendent/Director of Operations and supports daily, weekly, and monthly planning to ensure grounds maintenance is completed to a high standard. The role also includes helping supervise staff in maintaining the golf course habitat and participating in the snow removal program.
You will join a team of three assistant superintendents and work in an environment that values communication, teamwork, leadership, and a positive approach to motivating crew members to do their best work.
What We’re Looking For
- Supervisory experience required
- Minimum of 3 years of turfgrass management experience required
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel

What You’ll Do
- Inspect the entire golf course daily, monitor the condition and playability of all 18 holes, and share findings with the Superintendent.
- Serve as a key member of the snow removal operations team.
- Train staff on safe equipment use, proper maintenance, and operating procedures.
- Maintain accurate records for maintenance procedures, pesticide and fertilizer applications, safety meetings, and staff assignments.
- Meet daily with the management team to review current activities and prepare for the following day.
- Assist with short- and long-term agronomic planning to keep the golf course in tournament-ready condition.
- Participate in the operation and repair of pumps, irrigation systems, and drainage systems.
- Help support team morale and contribute to a positive, productive work environment.
Additional Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to obtain a Massachusetts Pesticide Applicator License, Category 37, and a Massachusetts Hoisting Engineer License within 6 months of employment
- Self-motivated, dependable, and willing to work weekends and holidays as assigned
Compensation and Benefits
We offer a salary range of $75,000–$85,000, depending on experience, along with a strong benefits package that includes health insurance, a 401(k), sick time, vacation time, holiday pay, association dues and meetings, golf privileges, and uniforms. As one of three assistant superintendents, this position offers a 35–48-hour, 5-day workweek designed to support a healthy work-life balance.
Education Requirements
A degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management or a related field is preferred. We will also consider candidates who bring the right attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to building a successful career in the industry.
