    Job Summary
    Assists with the maintenance of the golf course and helps lead our team toward constant improvement alongside pristine conditioning. The Club has an exciting Master Plan in place with architect, Kyle Franz- construction will begin in the Fall of 2022. This applicant will be exposed to all facets of a golf course restoration during the length of this project.

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Plant Science or an Associate's degree from a two-year Turfgrass Management Program
    • Good skill set with Irrigation systems and Turf Health applications. Previous experience on a golf course required

    The assistant golf course superintendent reports directly to the golf course superintendent. Under the superintendent’s supervision the assistant superintendent directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course. Supervises and assist in the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment. The assistant superintendent may serve in the superintendent’s capacity during his/her absence.

    Typical Functions:

    Assists in the planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and other landscape areas.  Schedule’s work supervises the employees, and the use of equipment.

    Instructs equipment operators on the operation, care of mowing.

    Applies pesticides, fertilizers and takes care of sprayer to ensure proper application of pesticides and fertilizers and keeps accurate records.

    Participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, irrigation system, and drainage systems. Able to repair Toro 670, 730, and 800 series sprinklers.

    Assists in personal management and evaluation, employee safety, discipline and may also modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation.

    Employment Standards:
    Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways, greens; the seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; the planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation system, including wells, pumps and automatic controls. Ability to schedule, supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; to prepare clear and concise reports; and to maintain effective employee and public relations.

    Possession of a valid driver's license.

    Required to have a current Massachusetts pesticide applicator license or obtain one within sixty days.

    Must have a minimum of two years of golf course maintenance experience and a turf certificate.

    Salary:  $28 per hour plus overtime.

    Sharon is a ten-hole private club with driving range and chipping area located in Sharon Massachusetts. In 2020 a new clubhouse opened, over two thousand feet of paved cart path was installed. Projects in the works include adding an extension to the third green, a central control for the irrigation system.

    Assistant Golf Course Superintendent

    The Bay Club:
    The Club encompasses 625 acres (with 300 acres of adjacent conservation land) of which the country club and golf course occupy 200 acres located in the small shoreline community of Mattapoisett. The community and club are proud to be a Certified Silver Audubon International Signature Sanctuary with championship golf, (4) lighted Har-tru Tennis courts and (2) lighted Paddle Courts, an outstanding sports and fitness complex, junior Olympic swimming pool and year-round fine dining.

    Golf Course and Practice Facility Description:
    The course opened for play on July 1, 2004. The golf course was designed by Brad Faxon and partner Brad Booth of Faxon/Booth Golf Design. The course boasts multiple tee boxes with generous fairways and large bent grass greens. In addition to the 18 holes of championship golf covering 200 acres, the practice facility is 320 yards long allowing dual use from each end, (1) putting green, (1) Himalayan putting green (long, lots of slope) used for juniors and family fun and a Faxon designed short game area. To reduce practice tee turf wear, the club also has a new synthetic turf available for use. The Club is currently in the final phases of planning for an irrigation system replacement with work tentatively scheduled to begin in fall of 2022.

    Position Summary:
    We are seeking a highly motivated Assistant Superintendent who is looking to take the next step in their career with the ultimate goal of becoming a Head Superintendent. We are looking for someone to work side by side our crew of 20 employees to help provide our members with the best playing conditions possible.     Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Work hand in hand with the superintendent to develop and implement an agronomic program.
    • Create implement daily maintenance schedules.

    • Supervise, record, and participate in fertilizer and chemical applications (We are currently using Playbooks chemical app program).
    •  Communicate with the equipment manager to ensure needed equipment is ready for use.
    • Ensure equipment is cleaned and stored properly.
    • Involved in the daily course setup and inspection.
    • Assist in water management; irrigation scheduling, monitoring (TDR), hand watering with the goal of a firm turf is healthy turf.
    • Involved in budget development, implementation, and capital equipment procurement.

    Education & Experience Requirements:

    • Certificate, 2- or 4-year degree, in turf or related field preferred.
    • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a 2nd assistant or AIT at a similar level club preferred.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • A passion for the game of golf, a desire to play and a general understanding of the rules.
    • Valid Driver’s License.

    Brewster seeks qualified candidates for the position of Golf Maintenance Foreman for the Captains Golf Course.

    Position is responsible for supervising and assisting the golf course maintenance staff in the care and maintenance of two town owned 18 hole golf courses.

    Facility Description: The Sankaty Head Golf Club is a private 18 hole links course designed by Emerson Armstrong in 1921. It is located on Nantucket Island, 30 miles of the coast of Cape Cod. Jim Urbina Golf Design has lead a restoration over the last several years which has brought Sankaty back to being one of the best links course in America. Sankaty will be hosting the 2021 USGA Mid-Am in September.

    Description:  We are seeking a candidate that is self-motivated, detailed oriented, and a team player with a positive attitude. The assistant will work closely with the superintendent to provide the best playing conditions for Sankaty members and guests.

    The ideal candidate will have excellent work ethic, positive attitude, and the ability to lead a team. They must also have experience in project management, course renovation, irrigation use and repair, application of pesticides and fertilizer, and the ability to mentor seasonal staff. Experience with Rain bird decoder system a plus. Must have or obtain Massachusetts Category 37 within 30 days of hire.
