    Golf Course Superintendent Warwick Country Club – Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island

    About Warwick Country Club Nestled on scenic Narragansett Bay, Warwick Country Club offers breathtaking views of the West Passage, East Greenwich Bay, the Jamestown, and Newport Bridges. The historic 18-hole Donald Ross–designed golf course is complemented by expansive practice areas, two clay and two hard-surface tennis courts, four pickleball courts, a platform tennis court, a newly renovated Olympic–size swimming pool, cabana, renovated baths, and a private beach.     Position Overview The Golf Course Superintendent oversees all aspects of golf course and grounds operations, including turf management, landscaping, irrigation, equipment, personnel, budgeting, and regulatory compliance. The role focuses on delivering exceptional playing conditions, aesthetic presentation, and sustainable management practices, while fostering a collaborative, motivated, and safety-conscious team environment.

    Primary Duties & Responsibilities

    Golf Course & Grounds Management

    • Oversee the care and maintenance of greens, fairways, roughs, ornamental plants, shrubs, trees, wetlands, and recreational areas.
    • Develop and implement annual turf and landscape programs, including fertility, aeration, mowing, overseeding, pest management, and rotational planting designs for Tennis, Pool, and Beach areas.
    • Plan and execute irrigation, drainage, and water management, including aggressive tracking and monthly reporting on wells, ponds, and other sources.
    • Direct and participate in construction, renovations, and landscaping projects to maintain a visually appealing and functional property.
    • Proactively anticipate personnel, equipment, and material needs to ensure smooth operations.
    • Demonstrated success with cool-season turf, Donald Ross or classic era playing characteristics and New England climate management.
    • Hands-on experience with irrigation systems, pump stations, moisture management, and water conservation practices.

     Staff Leadership & Development

    • Recruit, train, supervisor, and mentor maintenance staff, including seasonal employees.
    • Conduct performance evaluations, provide technical, operational, and safety training, and enforce disciplinary actions as needed.
    • Foster a professional, respectful, and engaged team environment with open communication.

    Budgeting & Financial Management

    • Develop, manage, and monitor operating and capital budgets, including payroll, supplies, chemicals, and equipment.
    • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, chemical applications, irrigation logs, equipment maintenance, and safety compliance.
    • Coordinate scheduling to minimize disruption to members while ensuring efficient operations.

    Equipment & Regulatory Compliance

    • Oversee maintenance, repair, and replacement of equipment, vehicles, and tools.
    • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and all local, state, and federal regulations.
    • Supervise proper and safe handling, storage, mixing, and application of chemicals.

    Member & Club Relations

    • Work closely with the Head Golf Professional, General Manager, and Board of Governors on operational and capital projects.
    • Support and assist with member communications related to course conditions, projects, and events.
    • Proactively to improve member experience through exceptional course and facility presentation.
    • Golf Superintendent will report directly to the General Manager.

    Knowledge & Skills Required

    • Expertise in the management and maintenance of greens, fairways, and roughs.
    • Knowledge of equipment and tools used in golf course construction and maintenance.
    • Skilled in recruiting, supervising, training, evaluating, and motivating personnel.
    • Strong people skills to resolve conflicts and collaborate with staff, members, and management.
    • Knowledge of golf, golf rules, and methods of play.
    • Ability to design irrigation and drainage systems, and construct tees and greens.
    • Proactive approach to enhancing the club’s operations and member experience.
    • Prior experience with Rainbird Irrigation System desired.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Minimum 5 years as a Golf Superintendent or 1st Assistant at a high-quality facility.
    • Degree or certificate in Turf Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Science, or Soil Science.
    • Computer skills, including Microsoft and Excel, for financial reporting and operational control and budgeting purposes.
    • Valid driver’s license and Rhode Island pesticide applicator license (or ability to obtain within 90 days).
    • A Member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America preferred.
    • Work-related Spanish fluency is highly preferred

    Schedule & Compensation

    • Full-time, salaried exempt position; early mornings, weekends, and holidays required during peak golf season.

    Wianno Club is a historic private country club overlooking Nantucket Sound on Cape Cod. We are currently seeking an Assistant Superintendent. The Assistant Superintendent will play a vital role in staff management and turf management. They will work closely with the Superintendent, fellow Assistant, Equipment Manager, and Irrigation Technician. They will be responsible for managing and coaching our AIT's, interns, and seasonal staff members. Primary duties beyond management will be disease scouting, spraying, watering, course set up, and leading projects. 

    As an Assistant at Wianno Club, you will be heavily involved in short-term and long-term planning, pest control management, budgeting, member interactions and communications, planning and coordinating with the golf professional staff, and creating better practices for our department's efficiency. The goal is to provide you with a comprehensive learning experience that will prepare you to step into a Superintendent role.

    Educational Requirements

    Graduated or approaching graduation in a Turfgrass Science (or related field) bachelor's degree, associate degree, or certificate program is preferred.

    Experience Requirements

    One year of golf course experience.

    Special Requirements

    Ability to obtain a Massachusetts Pesticide Applicator License. Valid Driver's License.

    Position Summary

    Key Responsibilities

    • Maintain the golf course and tennis grounds to premier private club standards.

    Equipment Manager Position

    About Pocasset Golf Club

    Founded in 1916, Pocasset Golf Club started as a 9-hole golf course. In the early 1920s, legendary designer Donald Ross redesigned the original nine holes and added an additional nine, creating layouts that remain a testament to his vision. The Club is set on 120 acres of rolling, natural terrain. Since becoming a private club in 1989, the course has undergone a full restoration in the classic Ross tradition. Forse Design, the club’s architect since 2001, continues to guide course enhancements, including an updated master plan scheduled for implementation in the fall of 2025.

    Position Summary

    The Equipment Manager (EM) plays a critical role in the success of Pocasset Golf Club’s operations. Reporting to the Golf Course Superintendent, the EM oversees a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for all golf course equipment and communicates effectively regarding any maintenance or repair needs.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Maintain a preventive maintenance program for all golf course equipment.
    • Ensure exceptional quality of cut on all mowers through correct reel and bedknife grinding.
    • Diagnose and repair gasoline and diesel engine issues.
    • Prioritize and complete equipment repairs and maintenance.
    • Purchase repair parts, replacement supplies, and shop tools.
    • Keep accurate records of equipment conditions, inventory purchases, repair costs, and maintenance schedules.
    • Conduct spot checks for equipment performance on the course.
    • Maintain a clean, organized maintenance shop.
    • Track and purchase fuel supplies.
    • Coordinate with the Superintendent and Assistants on scheduling and equipment availability.
    • Assist the Superintendent with equipment purchasing and leasing programs.
    • Train staff in safe operation and cleaning of equipment.

    Sharon Country Club

    Sharon Country Club, located in Sharon Massachusetts, is a private ten-hole club with a driving range and short game practice area. Sharon Country Club was established in 1898. We currently have an opening for the assistant superintendent position, see the job description below.

    Assistant Golf Course Superintendent

    The assistant golf course superintendent reports directly to the golf course superintendent. Under the superintendent’s supervision the assistant superintendent directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course. The assistant superintendent may serve in the superintendent’s capacity during his/her absence.

    Typical Functions:

    Assists in the planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and other landscape areas.  Schedule’s work supervises the employees, and the use of equipment.

    Instructs equipment operators on the operation, care of mowing.

    Apply pesticides and fertilizers and takes care of the sprayer to ensure proper application of pesticides and fertilizers and keeps accurate records.

    Participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, irrigation system, and drainage systems. Able to repair Toro 670, 750, and 800 series sprinklers.

    Assist in the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment.

    Assists in personal management and evaluation, employee safety, discipline and may also modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation.

    Projects:

    The design phase for a new irrigation system is starting this fall. 

    Employment Standards:

    Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways, greens; the seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; the planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation system, including wells, pumps and automatic controls. Ability to schedule, supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; to prepare clear and concise reports; and to maintain effective employee relations.

    Possession of a valid driver's license.

    Required to have a current Massachusetts pesticide applicator license or obtain one within sixty days.

    You must have a minimum of two years of golf course maintenance experience and a turf certificate.

    Salary: 60k to 75k depending on experience.

    Hours: In season 43 to 48, off season 40.

    Benefits: 75% employer 25% employee Health Insurance, 401k (no matching), vacation and sick time, golfing privileges.
