    Qualifications & Requirements

    Experience
    Preferred but not required: Prior experience in golf course maintenance, turfgrass management, landscaping, or a related field. We welcome motivated candidates from other industries who are eager to begin or transition into a career in turf management.

    Education
    Preferred but not required: Completion of a formal Turfgrass Management program or related degree. Comprehensive on-the-job training will be provided to candidates who demonstrate strong work ethic, positive attitude, and genuine commitment to learning the trade.

    Special Requirements

    • Must obtain a Massachusetts Pesticide Applicator License within 60 days of hire (training and exam support provided).
    • Reliable transportation and consistent punctuality.
    • Positive, team-oriented attitude with a proactive, forward-thinking approach to work.

    Compensation & Benefits

    • Hourly rate: $24–$26 per hour, based on experience, qualifications and certifications
    • Off-site housing available. Reasonably priced monthly rent, less than 5 miles from the club

    Turfgrass Research Technician (Laboratory Technician 1)

    The Department of Plant Science and Landscape Architecture, a part of the College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources, within the University of Connecticut, Storrs Campus, seeks qualified applicants for the full-time position of Plant Science Research and Education Facility Turfgrass Research Technician (Laboratory Technician 1). Supervised by the Plant Science Research and Education Facility Manager and the Department Head, this position provides technical assistance to faculty and researchers in establishing and maintaining turfgrass for research, teaching, and outreach. Duties also include maintenance and repair of equipment associated with field and greenhouse projects as well as pesticide applications. The anticipated salary range for this position is $51,344 to $55,500, commiserated based on qualifications and experience. Evaluation of applications will begin immediately, and the position will remain open until filled. Preference will be given to applications received by February 6, 2026.

    The Bay Club at Mattapoisett encompasses 625 acres, including 300 acres of adjacent conservation land, with the country club and golf course occupying approximately 200 acres. The community and club are proud to be a Certified Silver Audubon International Signature Sanctuary, featuring championship golf, four lighted Har-Tru tennis courts, two lighted paddle courts, an outstanding sports and fitness complex, a junior Olympic swimming pool, and year-round fine dining.

    A Master Plan was developed by Golf Course Architect Ian Andrew in 2025, project slated to begin in the Fall of 2027. In Spring 2023, the Club completed installation of a Rain Bird IC irrigation system with Golf Water and Tanto Irrigation.

    Golf Course & Practice Facility Description

    The golf course opened for play on July 1, 2004, and was designed by Brad Faxon and Brad Booth of Faxon/Booth Golf Design. The course features multiple tee boxes, generous fairways, and large bentgrass greens.

    The property includes:

    • 18 holes of championship golf spanning 200 acres
    • A 320-yard dual-ended practice range
    • One traditional putting green
    • One Himalayan-style putting green designed for junior and family use
    • A Faxon-designed short game area
    • A newly installed synthetic turf practice area to reduce tee wear

    Position Summary

    The Bay Club at Mattapoisett is seeking a highly motivated Second Assistant Golf Course Superintendent who is eager to continue developing their skills within a progressive agronomic program. This position is ideal for an individual early in their career who is looking to gain hands-on experience and advance toward a future Assistant or Head Superintendent role.

    The Second Assistant will work closely with the Superintendent and First Assistants, while being actively involved with the daily supervision and execution of golf course maintenance. We offer a positive work environment with a strong emphasis on professional growth and work/life balance.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    • Assist the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents with the implementation of the agronomic program
    • Help execute and follow daily maintenance schedules
    • Assist in supervising, training, and motivating a seasonal staff of up to 20 employees
    • Participate in fertilizer and chemical applications and record keeping (Playbooks chemical app currently in use)
    • Assist with daily course setup and inspections
    • Support irrigation and water management efforts, including hand watering, TDR monitoring, and irrigation scheduling
    • Work closely with the Equipment Manager to ensure equipment is maintained, cleaned, and properly stored
    • Assist with special projects, renovations, and capital improvements as needed
    • Participate in staff meetings and contribute ideas toward continuous improvement

    Education Requirements

    • Certificate, 2-year, or 4-year degree in Turfgrass Management or a related field (or actively pursuing)

    Experience Requirements

    • 1+ year of experience as an AIT, intern, or Second Assistant preferred
    • Strong work ethic with a desire to learn and advance professionally
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Passion for the game of golf and a general understanding of the rules
    • Valid Driver’s License
    • Massachusetts Pesticide License (or ability to obtain)

    Compensation & Benefits

    • $70,000–$73,000 annual salary, DOE

    Ridder Farm Golf Course is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to lead the maintenance and enhancement of our 18-hole facility.

    Position Highlights:

    The golf course superintendent will be a critical part of the management team involved in not only golf course maintenance but also providing the quality conditions for the entire facility.  The departing superintendent has been in the current role for 20 years.  Ridder Farm Golf Course is committed to providing the superintendent with the proper support to progress in their career and succeed in the position.           

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide consistent, quality golf course playing conditions.
    •  Collaborate in the recruitment and selection of competent and unified staff.
    • The capability to effectively train and manage a maintenance team of 20 in achieving organizational objectives.
    • Develop and implement an agronomic program to provide quality conditions. These programs will encompass the golf course, function facility grounds, adjacent residences and driving range.
    • Maintenance and operation of pump stations and irrigation systems to provide optimum playing conditions.
    • Snow removal and ice management operations.

    Experience Required:

    • Knowledge in maintaining quality golf course conditions in a busy golf environment.
    • Proficient in irrigation repair, scheduling and auditing. Rainbird central control experience desired.
    • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
    • Ability to hire, train and retain staff. Pleasant and collaborative qualities desired.
    • Knowledge in developing a plant protection, fertility and nutrient program.
    • Experience with bunker and tee renovations. Ability to facilitate projects using sub-contractors or performing in-house.
    • Experienced in the use of front-end loaders, excavators and skid steers.
    • Capability to lead an equipment maintenance and repair program.
    • Knowledge of the rules and the traditions of the game of golf.

    Qualifications:

    • 3 - 5 years’ experience as a golf course superintendent or assistant golf course superintendent.
    • A degree or certificate in turfgrass management or related field.
    • MA Pesticide license Category 37.
    • Valid driver's license.
    • Hoisting engineer license or ability to acquire one within 1 year.

    Compensation and Benefits:

    • Salary range $90,000-$120,000.
    • Health insurance stipend available.
    • Expenses paid for maintaining a hoisting engineer and category 37 pesticide licenses.
    • Dues paid for local and national superintendent associations.
    • Expenses paid for attendance of regional education seminars and NERTF conference.
    • Company cell phone plan available.                                                                                

    About Ridder Farm Golf Course – Located in Plymouth County Massachusetts, Ridder Farm Golf Course was founded in 1959 and is an 18-hole daily fee facility. The front nine was designed by Henry Holhman. The renovation of the front nine and completion of the back nine was designed by Geoffrey Cornish in 1964. The property also consists of a driving range, function facility restaurant and multiple residences.
