    Assistant Mechanic

    SODCO INC is on the cutting edge of sustainable agriculture, and one the largest sod producers in the northeast. We grow traditional rough height sod, Microclover sod, Greens and fairway bentgrass, as well as wildflower sod.  We are looking to hire an assistant mechanic to help maintain and repair our fleet of sod harvesters, reel mowers, tractors, forklifts, delivery trucks/trailers and many other pieces of farm equipment. The position is full time, Monday-Friday, and half day on Saturdays during the busy season; no weekends in the offseason. We are looking for a passionate, ambitious self-starter to join our team.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Work includes, but is not limited to, gasoline, diesel and battery powered engines, hydraulic systems, tune-ups, ignitions, carburetor, power equipment, electrical systems, brakes, etc.
    • Assist with the off-season maintenance on all equipment.
    • Prepare and maintain accurate records of maintenance, parts usage, labor, and down time etc.
    • Purchase and monitor stock
    • Provides cosmetically clean and aesthetically pleasing vehicles and equipment.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

    • Must possess considerable knowledge of principles and procedures used in the operation, maintenance, and repair of light and heavy equipment, including skill in diagnosing and repairing malfunctions in vehicles and equipment.
    • Must operate testing tools and equipment including but not limited to micrometrics, volt amp meters and hydraulic test equipment.
    • Must physically maneuver carry, lift and position parts used in repair work for a sustained period of time up to 90+ pounds.
    • Must operate light construction equipment and vehicles that are being repaired.
    • Must read and understand vehicle maintenance and repair manuals.
    • Must apply basic knowledge of math, related to mechanical repairs and fabrication.
    • Perform repairs while on the floor or ground when necessary.

    Salary Range

    $20-$25/hour
