    ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT

    Oyster Harbors Club is looking for a highly motivated and team driven candidate that possesses the fundamentals needed to maintain a golf course and its team at a championship level. The Assistant Superintendent will work closely with the Superintendent and 2 other Assistants in all facets of the job to provide a better understanding of golf course practices, communication, time management, leadership and teamwork. Daily responsibilities include but are not limited to fertilizer and pesticide applications, IPM and scouting, water management, course set-up, irrigation repair and installation, and daily course maintenance. The goal of this position is to develop a steward of sustainable golf course management and provide the candidate with the foundational skills, network and philosophies to succeed as a world class superintendent.

    This spring 2025, Oyster Harbors Club will be putting the finishing touches on a Gil Hanse 18-hole restoration. The project consisted of a full 18-hole course restoration to Donald Ross’s original design, a full irrigation redesign and construction, drainage, bunker reconstruction with Billy Bunker installation, as well as practice facility and driving range redesigns. The assistant candidate will work alongside the Superintendent and assistants to prepare the golf course for reopening in the spring.

    Oyster Harbors Club is situated in Osterville on the southern shores of Cape Cod, MA. Founded in 1926, Oyster Harbors Club has become synonymous with championship caliber golf and the ultimate summer retreat. The 18-hole championship course is regarded as one of Donald Ross's last original designs and has remained one of New England's best kept secrets. The 140-acre property is located on a secluded private island with vista ocean views. Greens are 100 yr old untouched bent/poa grass type. Fairways are bent/poa/rye mix. Tees are bent/poa mix and rough is bluegrass/fescue/rye/poa mix. Golf holes and property surrounds are low maintenance fine fescue native areas.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Certificate or 2-4 year degree in Turfgrass Management
    • Must have prior golf course experience.
    • Massachusetts applicator license or the ability to obtain within 6 months.
    • Pesticide application experience
    • Possession of a valid driver’s license

    Waverly Oaks Golf Club is a high end daily fee public golf course offering private club conditions and amenities and includes a championship 18 hole par 72 course, a 3 hole short course and practice facility.

    We are looking for individuals that are self-starters and can handle managing a crew for day-to-day activities.

    This is a year round position with ample time off during the winter months. We have a rotating work schedule during the golf season to accommodate varying schedules.

    Requirements

    • 2 or 4 year degree or Certificate with a background in Turfgrass/Golf Course management or a turf certificate from winter school
    • 1-2 years working on a golf course with experience in equipment maintenance, fertilizer and pesticide application and crew supervision.
    • Possession of a valid driver’s license
    • Required to have a current Massachusetts pesticide applicator license or obtain one within sixty days
    • Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways, greens, the seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf, the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil amendments, herbicides and pest control methods and treatments. Irrigation practices for bentgrass greens/tees and fairways.
    • Assists in the training of maintenance staff in equipment use and maintenance practices.
    • In conjunction with the clubs maintenance practices and the Golf Superintendent, ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    The Town of Yarmouth is searching for a Golf Course Superintendent to join their Golf Division team!

    Working under the general supervision of Head Golf and Grounds Superintendent the Golf Course Superintendent oversees the maintenance, repair and reconstruction of Golf facilities, structures, and equipment in accordance with overall guidelines established by the Head Golf and Grounds Superintendent. Participates in planning for course improvements. Responsible for the playability of the golf course by ensuring the maintenance staff is equipped to maintain the fairways, greens, bunkers, roughs, clubhouse areas, and tree/water lines. Receives reports on work as it is completed and takes action to ensure that quality standards are met. Oversees the operation of the irrigation systems. Tours the facilities frequently to assess their overall condition and to identify areas requiring special attention. Develops special projects and non-routine maintenance in accordance with findings.

    Assists in the preparation of bids for purchase of equipment, repair parts & contracted services. Assists in preparing the maintenance department budget for annual Golf Operating Budget. Trains and/or oversees training of maintenance personnel in all phases of turf management, including such areas as operating greens machines and spray equipment reading meters, troubleshooting, and repairing irrigation systems, including work with master and satellite controls, identification of infestations and disease and appropriate application of fertilizers and pesticides.

    Keeps Head Golf and Grounds Superintendent informed of work progress and immediately reports any significant problems found with materials, equipment, or ability to complete projects.

    RECOMMENDED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education: Associate degree in turf management, golf course maintenance or a related field

    Experience: Five years of golf course maintenance experience with at least two years in the capacity of Golf Course Superintendent or Assistant Golf Course Superintendent required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Physical Requirements: Position requires occasional light to moderate physical effort; employee may be required to stand or walk for major portion of shift. Must be able to judge distances and spatial relationships. Must be able to conduct visual inspections while in the field.

    Job responsibilities will include:
