Job Description

Position Title: Agronomy Internship

Position Reports to: Superintendents and Director of Grounds

Employee Category: Full Time Seasonal

FLSA Category: Non-Exempt; Hourly

Interns will work closely with our Superintendents to become proficient in daily course preparation, agronomic and cultural practices, irrigation maintenance, chemical/fertilizer calibration and application, water management, equipment setup and maintenance, detailed record keeping/inventory and other tasks as assigned. Interns will be cross trained in all facets of golf course maintenance and operations, including in-house construction projects. This is a tremendous learning opportunity for those striving to grow personally and professionally in the turf industry.

Interns will attend bi-weekly meetings with the Director of Grounds, Golf Course Superintendent, and other members of our turf team to discuss and understand the decisions we make daily, review all cultural and maintenance practices, examine our pesticide program and why we are applying the products, as well as the importance of communication with the Equipment & Shop Manager when it comes to equipment usage.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Golf Course Superintendent in providing the membership with the best possible course and grounds conditions.
  • Daily course preparation and set-up
  • Golf course maintenance including mowing of greens, tees, fairways and roughs, aerification, divot filling, etc.
  • Hand watering and turf grass stress management
  • Equipment setup and maintenance
  • Detailed record keeping and inventory
  • Topdressing program and application
  • Tree maintenance
  • Hazard maintenance
  • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and Director of Grounds

Required Skills:

  • Must have a drive, passion, positive attitude, and ability to work in team settings
  • Solid knowledge of the game of golf
  • Ability to make quick decisions
  • Must have a driver’s license
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited 2 or 4-year Turfgrass Management or Plant Sciences Program

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand for 8 to 10 hours
  • Able to lift to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to arrive at work at early morning hours
  • Must be able to work outside for 10- 12 hour days
