Job Description:
Assists in turf management and in the maintenance, repair, construction and general condition of the public golf course.  Assists the Superintendent in discharging the administrative, supervisory and instructional duties; all other related work as required.  Is responsible for carrying out the work program in the absence of the Superintendent.

Operates a variety of mowing and spraying equipment, hand and power tools, calibration equipment, tractors, sweepers and weed whackers.
Assists in the training and evaluation of maintenance personnel, assigns and supervises the work of a mechanic, working foreman and grounds personnel.  Supervises the technical training of all employees on all types of machinery.

Carries out a program of grounds maintenance to ensure that buildings, tees, fairways, greens and adjoining areas are kept in satisfactory conditions at all times, with a strong emphasis on the Town’s Environmentally Sustainable Land Management Plan.

Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma, plus additional courses in turf management, agronomy or horticulture.  Five years progressively responsible experience in the maintenance and operations of golf courses, including one year in a supervisory capacity.

Valid Massachusetts Class D Driver’s License

Valid Massachusetts Pesticide License

Additional Qualifications:
Knowledge of golf course maintenance.  Knowledge of proper use of fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides and fungicides.  Knowledge of drainage control and irrigation systems.  Knowledge of the rules related to the game of golf is desirable.  Ability to plan work, supervise and evaluate subordinates.  Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Physical Requirements:
Moderate to considerable physical effort required on most occasions, including the lifting of 50 pound fertilizer bags, logs, sod and reel cutting units.  Constant physical activity including walking, bending, standing, pushing and pulling.

$1,338.29 weekly + benefits
